Today, you may only place a tiny house for permanent living in a residential area. Living permanently in a tiny house on farmland or in a nature reserve is therefore prohibited.
On farmland, you will therefore only be able to stay in your tiny house on a non-permanent basis, for example on weekends or a few weeks during the summer vacations. If you want to be sure you are in order and not committing any violations, it is best to contact the municipality.
Do you choose to live permanently in a tiny house within a residential area? Then you need a permit. Currently, the legal framework around tiny houses in Belgium is vague and nothing is written about it in the Flemish Housing Code, Flemish or Belgian legislation. It is the municipalities that will decide whether or not to grant a permit. It is therefore best to check with the urban planning department of your municipality beforehand. Some municipalities, such as the city of Leuven, for example, have already developed their own policy on the placement of tiny houses.
